Where School of WorkLife Came From
To understand what The Stories Behind the Stories is — and why it exists — you need to understand where School of WorkLife came from.
The journey began in the early 2000s.
During an economic downturn.
My contract in investment banking had come to an abrupt end.
I was out of work.
And I found myself at a crossroads.
That crossroads led me to Ireland.
To a room full of people who had also lost their jobs in the same downturn.
And to the moment I discovered that stories — not techniques, not frameworks, not CV advice — were what people needed most.
That discovery shaped everything that followed.
Twenty years of working with people navigating their WorkLives.
Through stable times and times of uncertainty.
Through career transitions and economic downturns and a global pandemic.
And through all of it — learning.
Learning by doing.
Learning through people’s stories.
Learning through literature.
Learning through everything — the challenges, the obstacles, the failures, the successes.
And the passion for learning that never left.
That learning became School of WorkLife.
Not planned.
Not designed in advance.
Built from experience — one discovery at a time.
